Here's our Birdie
Isn't she a pretty girl? She's been with us now for a little over three months - times goes so quickly. She is very comfortable here - absolutely loves Ralph. The feeling seems to be quite mutual!
I haven't posted to the blog for a while - because nothing very exciting has been going on here. Sometimes quiet is good -- weather forecast for tonight is -4. Woodburner is going strong . . . all of the dogs are warm - if I feel cold, I just hold one (or two - or three) of them for a while -- instant heat!

Remember Mr. Skunk?
Typically, I don't worry much about skunks through the winter months. I just don't think they are as active in the colder climate.
I was walking in the backyard today and caught a wiff of that all too familiar scent - skunk. He was long gone but the smell remained. This prompted me to share - "BEST SKUNK ODOR REMOVAL FORMULA" recipe that a friend shared with me. It's only a few ingredients and not hard to remember -- worth taking a look at -- maybe it will save you and your 4-legged kids from being "skunked".
1 quart Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
Dawn Dish Soap
Mix all ingredients together with enough water to get it sudsy. Work into the dogs fur (works best if the dog is dry) -- leave on as long as possible for best odor removal then rinse. There's nothing toxic here so you could repeat the process of necessary (the old tomato juice remedy mostly turns your dog pink!)
